2011: Year of the Ballerina?

Happy New Year, everyone!

It's been a cold, cold Christmas here in Scotland, and I can't wait for the sun to start shining again. Hogmanay in Edinburgh was spectacular, and I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and start on a fresh new year! It hasn't been quiet in the flat at all since I've returned (we've had visitors all week!), yet during the blissfully quiet hours of New Years Day, I wriggled into bed and watched an favourite film of mine from the forties: The Red Shoes.

This film got me into a ballerina state of mind this week. Handy, as in two week's time Darren Aronofsky's highly acclaimed Black Swan is released in the UK. Like The Red Shoes, the film promises to be visually stunning. The costumes look amazing:

The fashion industry seems to be turning its head towards ballet as well, as designers such as Chloe have incorporated elements of the dance's wear into their Spring 2011 collections. Think diaphanous fabrics, calf-length skirts and a muted palette.

My love of all things floaty dictates that the ballerina trend is one I am definitely going to try and emulate this season. I'm thinking high buns, cardigan wraps in pastels, tulle skirts and, of course, the ballet flats (but I prefer mine to be red!).

It's also almost time for me to get back on George Square and start snapping your outfits! I can't wait to see what you're all wearing. Tell me, what trends are you going to be following in 2011?
